Light wind, 2700m base but deep Cus and some Cb

April 28th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

We made an early start as the temp trace indicated that the conditions could deteriorate. Great flying for 2 hours. At the pass the other side looked very good with a clear convergence to Avila. However in the West there was a large Cb at Bejar and conditons were getting too easy (to stay up). […]

Gentle NE climbs to 2500m

April 27th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Today finally a very good day with fantastic thermal soaring conditions throughout the day. The last two days have been a bit too windy or overdeveloped giving poor flying on Monday, and making us do something else yesterday (quite a pleasant Gredos Walk). Today a very nice Cu distribution with an easy trip to near […]

Take off Astro turf is here

Hard to believe, but it really is here. It arrived yesterday and is in storage to the E of town. After Easter the tecnitians should arrive and hopefully start to lay it (needs a sand bedding and some very expensive adhesive). It has only taken 16 years, but it seems we will soon have a […]

Light winds and Coverence

April 16th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

A fantastic soaring day to finish the week with our Italians. Far more unstable than yesterday and convergence just behind take off with the light SE geostrophic. No early flight and straight into the XC (Towards Barco). Climbs to 2800m with nice Cus. I did two evening tandems both with great thermal climbs right upto […]

Very gentle warm sunny day with inverted conditons around take off for the first flight. The XC I made with Walter on the tandem. Slow climbs to not more than 100m over take off, though sufficient to drop into the usual bar at Barco de Avila. The others dropped out along the route.

Over the Pass

April 14th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again great flying conditions with potential climbs to 2900m (the Cu´s over the mountains), though I only went to 2450m. Marco doubled his personal best on the second flight landing at Muñotello on the other side of the Pass. Classic evening restitution for the evening flight. An interesting effect of a fire in Bejar. […]

Back in the harness

April 10th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not much flying so far this year for me, what with quite a harsh winter, lots of other projects and a recent wrist operation. However, yesterday we had some classic conditions at Peña Negra, which somehow cooincided with interest in tandem passengers. Three great thermal flights with the last landing a few minutes after sunset. […]
