Over the Pass again.

September 30th, 2019 - Posted by Steve Ham

A great forecast, but slow and tricky going.  Chris and I crossed on the north side plateu at around 2200m, Chris unfortunately landing around Amavida.  On his second flight, Laurie managed to fly to Muñopepe, some 15kkm from Avila.  Pleasant evening soaring once again later on.  That is it for our season.  We will fly […]

Another nice day with many at the Pass, but only Simon, Hans and myself going over.  However, only a few small climbs on the other side so no Avila today.

Nice flights down towards Barco.

September 25th, 2019 - Posted by Steve Ham

A very gentle day with climbs not much above 2300m (some at 3m/s).  Light and variable winds but with a hint of N.  An early scratching flight to Santiago de Collado, followed by a longer flight down to Barco and finishing with an evening flight.

Back to nice weather.

September 23rd, 2019 - Posted by Steve Ham

It has been a tough two weeks with Cyclone DANA causing historic destruction in SE Spain, and contributing a fair amount of non flying weather in our area.   Today 3 flights, though very gentle and a low cieling.  Many of us managed a modest XC to the Pass, but with only around 1900m thermal […]

The Final day for the Derbyshire Soaring Club.

September 8th, 2019 - Posted by Steve Ham

A nice end to the last day.  A more thermic day than the previous day (also a Barco goal).  With better Cu and base above 2900m.  We flew a modest goal to Barco.  Myself, along with Alan Horsfield, on the tandem, making two nice tandem XCs with Alan over the 2 weeks (Avila and Barco). […]

2 small XCs, early afternoon and evening to Barco (20km)

September 6th, 2019 - Posted by Steve Ham

Quite a cool day, sunny, but with slow thermic conditons.  5 made Barco on the first flight, although a short distance, taking around 1.20minutes due to the thermal tops being little more than 2100m (200m above take off).  The evening flight, with restitution being easier and those trying making it in less than 30 minutes.
