Light N , climbs to c 2600m

September 9th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not disimilar to yesterday but with more of a N flow and perhaps a little stronger.  An inversion again, not far above take off and climbs above 2600m will not be common.  A disparity of wind directions between Rasp and  Hirlam, so it maybe Barco, or it maybe Avila! O nce again a slow start […]

Mass flight to Avila. Pb for young Steve

September 9th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

The forecast was pretty much spot on in the end, even though we had a lot of smoke debris and muck stuck below the inversion causing poor visibility.  Nice convergence clouds in the centre of the Avila valley, and Richard, Graham, Brian, Nigel an myself at Avila with Tim and Tony  very near.  Also new […]

NW and lighter

September 8th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A flyable day with climbs probably not much more than 2600m, and an inverse making that quite difficult till mid afternoon.  However, the temp trace much more favorable and light winds onto the mountain so good flying for all levels.   A goal in Avila and maybe a part return to the bend in the […]

One of those days

September 7th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

…when if you are luck, brave and good you may fly 200km+.  However the winds (WSW) are on the high side and the wind will be crossed and turbulent at take of at both Lastra and PN.  Good lines of convergence right along the middle of  the Avila Valley and then beyond towards Segovia.  Predominantly […]

Slow day with variable winds

September 6th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Quite a stable day initially and we will need temperatures over 30ºC to get any decent thermals.  Light SE moving SW during the afternoon.  Hopefully it will come onto PN and there will be some interesting convergence effects which we will be able to take advantage of for circuits around the Valley (between the Pass […]

Flights to Avila and more PBs

September 6th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

First time to Avila for Kevin (though we did do it together by tandem some years ago).  Also a PB for Simon and Steve, who before had only around 6km as a pb and yesterday flew over the Pass to land at Pradosegar.  Great evening conditions too.

WNW, a little stable

September 5th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Climbs will be a little slow and late today with our temperature trace well to the right and some inversion, keeping us mostly below 2600, though some climbs will probably to to 3000m.  NW flow in general.  I imagine today Avila will be a good, and hard won goal for most of us. No easy […]

Sunday flying

September 5th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A late evening flight with wind a little too much to the west to make it good for the  arriving Malverns group.
