Impossible conditions but maybe a valid task

September 11th, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

The forecast today was not really suitable for a task, with increasing winds from the W and low cloudbase. The only viable task to get pilots to a goal would be a task to the Ambles Valley towards Avila, but the danger of crossing the pass ruled that out. An elapsed time race was set […]

Nice to begin with!

September 10th, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

A 60km valley race was set, from Corrals to the start near take off, then corrals, Hoyoredondo, Bonilla, red rood, then goal near Piedrahita. A classic looking Cu filled sky until around 3.15pm, but all the while large congestus clouds forming on the plateau behind, with rain falling beyond Chia from around 2.30. Conditions along […]

Feral swarm transfer and 2nd Warré harvest

September 9th, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

Stormy weather today for the German Paragliding open, so plenty of time to do some bee jobs which need to be done. A few day ago I removed from a tree one of my few successful bait hives. It was a cylindrical double walled plastic piece of tubing, normally used for drainage, which I cut […]

No flying today out of respect for Peter Groger.

September 8th, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

Yesterday after the start gate Peter Groger was seen to spiral down an impact near the top of the Big Spine.  Although pilots landed to help immediately and the competition doctor was on the scene within 30minutes, the extent of the injury was too great for any form of resuscitation.  My sincere thanks to those […]

Many pilots completed the course unaware […]

Thursday task cancelled, but Maurer flys to 170km

September 4th, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

Although the forecast seemed almost impossible, the wind came on the hill and was averaging 12km at around 1pm. However the clouds were quite low and there was little sun. It was decided to launch the task, but within minutes it could be seen that there was significant turbulence in front of take off and […]

Unusual conditions, and task stopped at 3.50.

September 3rd, 2008 - Posted by Steve Ham

A worrying forecast with strong winds predicted and obvious signs in the clouds. However, winds averaged 11pm until 3pm, with gusts no more that 28km/hr, so most competitors got off. After 3pm the winds started to increase significantly so we stopped the task, pilots scoring to 15minutes before that time. No results yet, but plenty […]
