Last Journey of the White Transit.
Sad to day that the old white van took its last journey over the Pass today to the scrap yard at Niharra. She had been with us for many years and I am sure many have fond memories of listening to Flanagan and Allen and old 50s radio broadcasts over the wireless as we went up the hill. I will miss her.

she looks so sparkly and new in the photo too!
having driven that van many times, and often cursing the gears, I will miss it!

Well old girl, onto your final resting place. You will be sorely missed. Wheel spin your way to the vehicle highway and don’t spare the horses. Rest in Peace….es

Such wonderful memories indeed! I can still hear those echoes of ‘The Goon Show’ and ‘Round the Horn’ as we chugged up the barely dug-out track to Pena Negra. Of course, there were no paragliders in those days, but we threw ourselves off the top anyway. Free flight at its best. How I miss White Van Man now, and the gentle evening glow of the radio valves illuminating the landing field, as we gathered in the darkness to listen to Norman Wisdom. Mister Grimsdale, it’s all gone catabatic since then…

Wheel spinning up the road to Pena Negra with snow on take off and cloud on the mountain…
Driving to the airport with oily black smoke coming from the engine…
Driving back from Barco when the water hose melted on the manifold…
But a few fond memories.
