Not looking easy today

July 7th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

The approach of a cold front associated with the depression over the UK will increase the westerly flow and instability.  Potentially an excellent Open XC day for the brave, with mainy blue thermals to above 3000m and with winds at 50km/hr at this level. Windsock showing a fair bit of wind from early on and […]

High quality Open XC day

July 6th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

South of west flow so convergence very likely […]

Post cold frontal. Lower base. Reasonable XC potential.

July 4th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

I guess we did not really do justice to yesterdays conditions – maybe I oversold, or perhaps the shadowing redued the potential.  Today we start with 8/8 cover of statocumulus which since around 8.30am has been cycliclly breaking down then reforming near the hill.  This is unlikely to lift and clear full untill after mid […]

July 2nd, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

We now have a new vehicle added to our fleet of 9 seater vans.  It is a Renault Traffice long wheel base 9 seater which gives us a little more space than the Mercedes Vito which was a bit tight when packing 9 gliders. The white Transit is also still with us as a third […]

3100m. Light W. PB for Catherine

July 2nd, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

High pressure at surface level with with forecast temperature to 26ºC in Piedrahita.  The approach of a warm front which will only skim the N of the Peninsula will give us a thickening of Cirrus towards late afternoon.  Good quality thermals to 3100m and winds light westerly.   If they keep SW at altitude and […]
