Rain and wind

September 17th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again the prospects are impossible for safe paragliding.   winds of around 40kmhr at take off level, rain and storms. We could do a sort of paragliding chat, not just me pontificating, but perhaps attempting to answer some PG related questions with the help of the wealth of experience that we have from some […]

Peña Negra in the morning and Lastra in the afternoon

September 15th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

The low pressure to our West continues, and will stay there for a while.  Today winds in the SW around 15km&hr at take off levels going to around 30km&hr at 3000m.  Due to humidity Cu will build readily and congestus is likely to form and maybe storms in late afternoon.  Not a perfect scenario, but […]

Strong SW and instability

September 14th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

We have a rather stationary low pressure system which sat with us all last week and seems to be staying here for a while longer and perhaps causing more problems for us this week than last. Today a trough moving through bringing some rain and higher winds.   tomorrow is looking reasonable on the forecast […]

Goodbye Malvens

September 14th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

Last sunday we faced an abysmal forecast, however, apart from Sunday we flew every day and good XCs on every day but Monday and Saturday.  Plenty of PBs and over 100km flights from Rob.  A great week. This following week with the Joint Services we have a similar apocalyptic forecast.  Lets hope it will pan […]

OK to start with

September 13th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not disimilar to yesterday initially with similar light winds but much more potential for big Congestus clouds and maybe Cbs.   Best to stay in our valley today I should think.

Yet another decent day!

September 12th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

Pre cold frontal, and I imagine we will see some cirrus later in the afternoon.  However, light winds from the W.SW.  Good thermals to 3200m an initially not too deep Cu.  Good for a flight to Avila or circuit between Barco and the Pass.. Nil wind at PN at 8 am.  Should come on easy […]

Barco and back and Avila.

September 11th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

WSW at the windsock at 9am, so likely to come onto the main launch at PN.  Local forecast shows lessening risk of cloud and rain, though the skew T seems to indicate otherwise.  We will see, but initially looks like another XC day.  Decision time at 11am, but briefing around 10.30 ish. 1500  What Happened […]

Decent XCs from Lastra (90km)

September 10th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

Maybe a little more wind and less cloud initially.  I suggest we go to Lastra a little earlier.  There is a little more west in the wind, so going to the E of Salamaca today and if possible more to the E of Robs track just in case we need to go through the gap […]

PBs X 2. 114km for Dr Rob. Salamanca and beyond.

September 9th, 2014 - Posted by Steve Ham

We should have the best of it in our region today with much of the instability now towards the NE.  An inversion around 35oo should stop too much overdevelopment.  Light S winds so it may come on to PN, though  Lastra may will be a better idea in case there are some bigger cells, and […]
