Similar trend, but better thermal quality

August 23rd, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again SW winds, improved thermal potential but tops lower at 3100m. Better themals may bring it onto PN, but once again a difficult day. What Happened? Brian, kevin and Gavin over the Pass to find lots of wind and not any decent climbs on thge other side.  Nigel and Rob at the cemetery and […]

5X 100km+. 3 PBs

August 21st, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

High pressure and significantly less wind than we have been experiencing. The Wind at PN at 9am across the hill (not over the back as previous days), so it is almost sure to pull onto PN launch. High base in the plains after around 2pm with enough South in the winds not to give us […]

Thermal tops c 3500m. Lighter SW wind

August 20th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

Poor visisbility and some cirrus may reduce the potential of the day.  However, it does at first seem we have flyable conditions with a good potential for a long XC.  Conditions shoul be good enough by 1.30pm and the wind is dropping off during the morning.  Wind SSW at PN at 8.30am. Probable trip to […]

Less SW wind. Thermal tops 11000ft.

August 19th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

Feasable conditions for PG. High thermal tops after 2pm but still quite high winds at altitude and posibility of dispersed Cbs. Well, tomorrow is looking more feasable with winds of 15km/hr from the SW.  Today now looks far too windy to even contemplate an evening attempt.

The deep depression in the Atlantic will move N towards the UK but we will get further strong upper level S winds which will increase the temperature.  Better thermal qality than yesterday, with probably climbs to c3000m.  Top temp expected around 33ºC.  If it reaches 35ºC then we may see formation of Cu, posibly developing […]

The south west winds still tied to upper level strong SW linled to depressions in the Atlantic. Spome African air due to arrive increasing temperatures. Inversion at 2600m and with top temp around 28ºC climbs to above 2800m unlikely. Wind may come on at PN (S at 8.30am) but we will be prepared to go […]

Strong SW, c3000m. Not easy.

August 14th, 2012 - Posted by Steve Ham

The depression spinning offtowards the UK is sending us upper level SWerlies and a cold front due to pass us tomorrow.  Thermal conditions are reasonable today with potential climbs to over 3000m.  However, winds are likely to be too strong for safe paragliding.  Tomorrow, with the arrival of the front winds the wind would normally […]
