SW wind. Stong and hot.

July 6th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not looking too favourable for paragliding according to the forecast due to the strong SW.  40km/hr at take off level and unto 60km/hr at 3000m, There is heat low over the Peninsula and top temperatures 40ºC.  The forecast needs to be a long way off to make this OK for a safe enjoyable pg day.   […]

Still top end wind from SW

July 4th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

On the local forecasts we have  a lot less wind, however looking at the Skew T it is still borderline for  safe paragliding.  A bit more West so a chance of it coming onto Peña Negra.  We will go early to Lastra again.  Mainly blue climbs to over 3000m with a 20-25km/hr wind at t.o […]

Yet another breezy day.

July 3rd, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not disimilar to yesterday, though potentially stronger winds early on.  Our best chance once again of safe flying is late evening.  This does look like the last horrible day with tomorrow showing a decent day.  We will take our early morning trip to have a look at 10am if the wind is has  not already […]

Less wind lower base.

July 2nd, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

This morning we had low level convection cloud on the face of the main mountain.  This is always a good sign after  a period of strong sustained dry southerly winds.  It generally shows the passage of a cold front so cooler moist and usually unstable good flying conditions from the NW.  The  cold front seems […]

Still windy but slightly better(evening flight only)

July 1st, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Probably climbs to 4400m with mainly blue themals and some upper level cloud which may allow things to calm a little.  Windy, but not quite so dramatic  as yesterday.  We will leave at 10am to go to Lastra to have a look.  Wind seems to go more west at end of day so possible flying […]

Similar thermal forecast to yesterday but windy

June 30th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

After yesterdays epic conditions today is going to be disappointment I fear. Although the thermic conditions are similar, though a lower inversion at 1500hrs at around 3800m, it is unlikely that we can safely fly during the day time due to the forecast winds.   which are 40km/hr at take off level and 60km/hr at […]

4-5000m thermal tops day SW wind. Very very Epic.

June 29th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

A potentially remarkable day. The inversion at 12 noon is 3800m which is markedly higher than the usual which is around 2600m.  Later the inversion reaches 5200m where thermals should reach if above 36ºC.  Winds at lower levels around 15 to 20km hour, touching 30 at top of climbs.  It is possible that the wind […]

Excellent Open XC day. Light SW, 120km, plus PB for Ulric

June 27th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

A very hot day with lighter winds than yesterday and a little more around the west rather SW.  This should give us safer and easier conditions at PN. At 12am the trigger temp is around 27 ºC, which is hot, and there inversion around 2600.  this inversion rises to around 3200m by 2pm.  It needs […]

June 26th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Another Epic day!  SW wind so convergence effects to N of Ambles valley and beyond.  NE lower wind at Avila will depend upon the strength of the SW.  Could be another O&R day or to carry on towards Segovia.
