Down to Barco then some circuit flying around the valley

June 11th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Nice day yesterday with most making Barco on a first flight then circuit flying on a second flight around the Piedrahita valley plus and evening soar.  Excellent 4/8 cu sky for most of the day until some cirrus came in towards close of day.

Flights so far.

June 4th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

We opened a little earlier than expected as we had some interest from people fleeing the rain in other parts of Europe.  Central and western Spain has been getting some rather good XC weather this week.  Our little group has been venturing over the pass on a daily basis.  Here is a Pic of Pete […]

PB for Gunnar 175.4km.

September 11th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

A big day from Lastra today with Gunnar making his PB of 175km.  Curiously, his last PB was in 1995 in the PWC race task I set to Acrones from La Lastra.  That 170km goal was something of a revelation in the PG world when around 50 pilots made it.  Even now nearly 20 years […]

Epic day yesterday.

August 21st, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Yesterday was an absolute classic day with perfect Cu and a marked convergence with strong smoothish climbs to 4000m.  I did my PB for carrying a 100kg passenger (Juan) to Avila on the tandem.  A bit of a taxi service now as the day before I took Adrian there too. Tricky staying low for the […]

Good use of a classic day yesterday.

August 20th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Superb conditions yesterday with the whole group over the Pass and at or near Avila and back some.  PB for Graham and a local PB for  Hans who made 92km of the return from Avila.  Even I managed to stay of the tea and biscuits for long enough to do a Tandem flight with Adrian […]

Laurence matches his PB with flight to Avila on his Buzz 3

August 19th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

This week we are blessed with nice easy XC conditions, though the light winds tend to give us convergence and often a quartering headwind in the Avila Valley. Most of us opted yesterday for a circuit around the Piedrahita Valley.  Laurence went over the Pass for a 4 hour flight on his Ozone Buzz 3 […]

First speed glide in Piedrahita.

August 12th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

This to my knowledge is the first ever take off with a speed glider from Peña Negra.  Our slope here is rather shallow, which allows it to catch the suns rays from early on, even though it is NW facing.  This is the reason it is so good for thermals.  However, that makes it […]

A few PBs today

August 10th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Good XC conditions today with a climb of 3300m straight after take off at 12.30.  Good Cu development but more of a NW in Avila so Hans, Michael, myself and Jack landed there.  A PB for Hans for distance and also for Johan who carried on to 90km.  A PB for young Jack who had […]

Potentially a good XC day. Some complications. 110km for Thomas.

July 30th, 2015 - Posted by Steve Ham

Westlies, not too strong and base over 3000m.  However, the general situation begins to become more complex and unstable.  Likely build up of congestus and possible Cbs at the end of day especially in the convergence.   The Hirlam surface winds show an interesting convergence on the E side of the pass at 11am.  convergence […]
