Another E flow day with base near 2800m. Only Johan from our group flying as I was at the airport collecting the new arrivals. Great flight for him with a return to Barco. No evening flight as conditions turned strong SE.
Yesterday NE and a flight down to Barco in quite stable conditions initially . Marshal and Nigel tried to return, some of us decided to land and have a snack in Barco.
Due to expected strong winds we flew early in light thermals landing before the frontally induced increase in wind strength.
What a day. Quite remarkable. After the Pass near Muñana, Nigel and I climbed to 4500m then flew without turning to Avila then pretty much back to the same spot without dropping much below 3900m. We for sure did not continue beyond Avila due to the mega conditions which would have made it too difficult […]
Todays forecast lived up to expectations with climbs to 3300m, light winds and strong thermals. Johan made it back from 50km out to the NW of Avila, and Nick on his FIRST EVER Xc, made 54.8km. Marshal also made it a good deal back from Avila to near the Pass. An epic day. Also […]
This years all the Sundays seem to be great for XC and soaring. yesterday with no exception with a Cu filled post frontal sky and abundant lift. Nigel probably made the best of those with a circuit to the Pass then towards the river north of Barco and home. the evening flying was spectacular. I […]
The end of the week dinner at our place. A week of some stunning flying and 6 big PBs, 5 over 150km and 2 over 200km.
Another PB for the week with Lawrence smashing his PB by X3 with an epic run to the NNE and 150km. Nigel made 118km and Stu 95km. Big conditions with climbs to well over 4000m.
What seemed a classic forecast was ruined somewhat by OD [spreadout]. Tim was able to snatch a thermal from the sun in the valley and do a nice out and return in the Salamanca direction. The rest of us had multiple attempts with some slow thermal climbs
Very pleasant conditions yesterday with mostly the group flying circuits around the valley between the pass and Baroc. Helen probably did the most with about 50km.
