PBs X 2. 114km for Dr Rob. Salamanca and beyond.

We should have the best of it in our region today with much of the instability now towards the NE.  An inversion around 35oo should stop too much overdevelopment.  Light S winds so it may come on to PN, though  Lastra may will be a better idea in case there are some bigger cells, and also we can get going earlier and more quickly on track.  We will make the call c11am when we see what the winds sock is doing at take off.   At 9 am ESE.

Not looking so disasterous for the next 2 days, with our region perhaps better than others in Spain

What Happened.

A great day from Lastra with easy climb out s and everybody over the Back.  Kobus made his PB with over 20km, the rest scattered on the way to Salamanca around 40 to 5om and Bryan Gavin and myself in Salamanca.  Rob took a different route around the airspace and did a whopper to 114km.   A nice bit of sightseeing in Salamanca while we waited for  Robs retrieve to return

Thunder at 8.46am. Karts?

O dear!.  Not looking remotely OK for this morning.  The Cb may run its course and give us an opportunity for later this afternoon, but I am not hopeful.

Gavin mention and interest in Karts.  Salamanca fiestas start today.   The Kart track is open.

Approaching Low pressure.

Today may be ok with similar winds as previous days.  However, the cirrus may mean that the thermals never reach the potential of the skew T prediction (over 3000m).  Also it may not come onto PN take off.  This is the first major low (and rain prediction for tomorrow) which will affect us since Mid June and possibly the first frontal rains since spring.  Farmers rejoice, paragliders despair!

Light W, 3200m .Avila and back some

Perhaps a better day without the low level clouds reducing heating as yesterday.   Lightish W (15km/hr at launch and about 20km/hr at 3000m.  Should be good for a flight to Avila, maybe beyond if the N does not come into much at Avila.   Blue thermals, and inverted a little at 3200m.

Late start for the thermals I imagine, so briefing at 11.15.

What Happened

Not a bad day with climbs over 3500 and quite light winds.  Time make Avila and Back to the bend in the road.

Seems like a cool northerly

low claggy cloud this morning which is often a good sign after a run of southerlies as it indicates to us a wind change more to the north, moister, more buoyant conditions and often pleasant flying conditions.   Obvoiously we need to wait for it to burn off, but normally by mid day we should be able to fly.   There still should be some westerly componend, so flights towards Avila.   Some Cirrus also indicated on the Skew T-

section to Segovia mid afternoon

What Happened.

Temperature never got high enough for decent climbs, but nice enough flying yup to the pass and a nice evening fight

Lighter SW

An upper level trough may cause some congestus or localised storms later in the afternoon.  Initially blue thermals with temperatures between c 26 and 30 ºC and an early inversion at the start of 2600m, with higher temps we will see clouds and some build ups such as yesterday.  Cloud base over 3500m.    Generally lighter wind and more to the W than yesterday so we may be flying from PN.  We will decide around 11am depending upon what the wind sock is doing at PN.

Potentially a very good XC day once again.

A rodeo ride to 100km with 4000m+

Warmer day with good xc prospects though the chance of some Congestus clouds spoiling the day for the less brave.  We may need to go to Lastra take off, and with the more south component may give us an opportunity to miss the Madrid TMA going between the Valladolid and Madrid Airspaces *see diagram.

lastra with reasonable take off condions though a bit stable early on then quickly to 4m/s+ thermals.  Best of the day Paul, with near 100km, followed by Luc, Geert and Anton.  Laurence also got a way.   They were eventually stopped from the 200km by a headwind.  One minute with glides of over 60km/hr, then low down a NE.

Late afternoon Cb over Gredos

Classic Day. Light SW, tops over 3500, 103 for Paul

High pressure over the peninsula with a heat low forming.  A rise to temperatures not experienced for a week or so and light winds from the SW.  This is a great day for xc towards Avila and maybe beyond.   Light winds will give N at Avila, so will be possible to fly back to the Pass or maybe find for a flight to Segovia.

Briefing at 11am.  We will cover airspace issues in this direction.  A bit later than normal for first day but we are awaiting Laurence who arrives on the 10.45 bus.

What Happened.

Great days flying with good climbs, nice Cu, though a little too much spread out in the Avila Valley caused things to get slow.  For that reason some landed in Avlia for a bit of tourism.  Only Paul went onto 103km , a bit short of Segovia.

Goodbye DSC, hello Belgians

Goodbye this morning to our great group from the Derbyshire Soaring Club.  The core of the group, Alan, Steve, John and Chinny have been here for 2 weeks, in which time the insatiable Chinny has racked up just over 777km.  They are off for more now in Ager.

With the DSC we have managed to fly every day for their 2 weeks stay.  Super individuals on both weeks and a real pleasure to be with you all.  See you next year!

We managed to get our new Belgian group back in time for the XC flight and a 2pm launch.  A cracking start to the week with Barco and back for most.  This week is looking pretty good too!

Not so bad after all. Barco for some

I hope those hang overs are not too bad as it seems we have a reasonable day ahead of us.  A more southerly flow, but light, so probably convergence effects around hour valley.   Wind over the back SE at 8am, but should come on .  Thermals not dissimilar to yesterday, though increased chance of larger Cu´s and maybe even the odd Congestus  or isolated Cb, though unlikely in our valley.

Deeper medium level cloud later in the afternoon perhaps too.

What Happened

Qutie overcast with cirrus and bands of stratus but enough for some nice thermals and a gentle flight down to Barco for some.  Uneventful evening down flight as well.
