Some Evening flight yesterday: Prospects today Bad.
After some reasonable evening flying at Lastra yesterday, today we have a very Stormy day with almost no possibility of flying with safety.
After some reasonable evening flying at Lastra yesterday, today we have a very Stormy day with almost no possibility of flying with safety.
Today is looking a little more tricky. similar in many respects to yesterday, but the convergence a little more aimed towards the GAP at Cuellar. Briefing around 10am for more detail and leaving by 10.30am
The meteo was spot on yesterday. Both Ian and Johan achieved the goal and Tordesillas. Placed just short of the Valladolid airspace. A spanish pilot , Godo, made an open distance of 348km landing not far from the Cantabrian coast. A new European record I think, and about the 4th or 5th claimed from our local Lastra site over the last 25 years. Below are Johan and Ians track logs, both following the predicted convergence.
A classic looking day with a marked convergence across the flatlands to the NNE. 4000m climbs probable and excellent thermals. More details at briefing at 10.30am
Today turned out to be pretty much as forecast and planned. Ian , Pete and I did a 60km triangle to beyond Puente de Congosto, Barco and home, whilst the other mainly at Barco. A tremendous day with climbs to 4000m at the end of the afternoon. Here are Ian and Pete’s tracks. Ian’s flight being rather amazing as he only has 1 week of flying per year, just flying here for a week. So, after a year off, bang, straight into an 8hour flight and 60km FAI triangle. Not bad!
The week is looking good. Today a light E flow with convergence along the main mountain and also running NW from Bejar. Not a big big open distance day, but should prove interesting. More details at briefing at 10.30am
A break in the poor weather of the previous days and easterly flow but a little inverted. Enough for some 20km flights to Barco for most of the group. Strong climbs and a little rough. Easy evening flying but the E component kept us on the PN spur.
The poor weather these last few days have given me time to do the 2nd Brits poster. The first was for the UK event, with caricatures of Boris Johnson and Teresa May. This one for France I thought I might use and Iconic british Bagpiper rounding a high french alpine peak.
Since Mondays great flights to Segovia it has been unseasonable windy and cold. A bit of flying yesterday, but today it seems much better with XC possibilities.
A NE flow and a nice settled Azores high for the rest of the week. Unlikely to get climbs above 2800m today and limited Cu. Barco direction for the flight, so we may be limited by the terrain at 30km if the thermal tops stay low.
Full briefing at 10.30 at the house.
This layer of low cumulostratus should move upwards and burn off and we should be able to fly by mid day. Winds are NW, so less problems at launch than yesterday. XC potential more limited though. Avila today would be a hard earned flight. Climbs later to around 2600m.
