5 X 100km Out and Returns to Avila. 100km Plus.

Rob made his PB on distance, duration and height gain. Likewise Jeff, and also the first 100km O& return for Alan and Marco I think.   An great day with climbs to 4300m, light winds and convergence.

The forecast was for an epic day to  Arcones but the weather forecast was wrong with the W winds which were light so the N  came in after the Pass.   Only Bart and Denis went over and Bart valiantly pushed on for his PB with a flight of 50km to just short of Avila. […]

Still windy but slightly better(evening flight only)

Probably climbs to 4400m with mainly blue themals and some upper level cloud which may allow things to calm a little.  Windy, but not quite so dramatic  as yesterday.  We will leave at 10am to go to Lastra to have a look.  Wind seems to go more west at end of day so possible flying […]

Excellent Open XC day. Light SW, 120km, plus PB for Ulric

A very hot day with lighter winds than yesterday and a little more around the west rather SW.  This should give us safer and easier conditions at PN. At 12am the trigger temp is around 27 ºC, which is hot, and there inversion around 2600.  this inversion rises to around 3200m by 2pm.  It needs […]

100km O&R yesterday for Brent.

Excellent conditions yesterday which Bernt fully utilised by doing the 100km out and return to near Avila.   Jim and I who were ahead tried pushing beyond Avila but fatigue and age kicked in and we landed at Avila for a snack. Really excellent evening conditions with climbs above 3000m even after 8pm.

Big Open XC Day.

SW and convergence.  High base to around 4000m  and reasonable PG winds.  Very good quality thermals.  Epic stuff for a really big flight towards and beyond Segovia……….However, I am driving to the airport.
