Convergence swinging to N before Avila. 3000m

August 12th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A very good looking day with a defined convergence running from our take off mountains, over the Pass, then running northwards half way along the Avila Valley.  This is very useful as it takes us away from the Airspace at Madrid (though not so important today as we have a base not much higher than […]

NNW going or NE above 2200m. climbs to c3000m

August 11th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Certainly a much better day with lighter winds and already showing signs of common on the hill at PN by 9am.  NNW on the hill at lower levels, turning more E higher up.  Decent thermal climbs with no strong inversion until 2800m.  Trigger temps around 25§C, so the day should get going early.  XC to […]

Easterly flow. climbs to c2600m

August 10th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Perhaps a better day than yesterday with a less marked inversion below take off level.  However still an inversion around 2200m, though we can expect climbs to about 2600m later in the day.  There is still the potential for strong E winds, though, like yesterday, most overdevelopment should be limited to the high mountain and […]

Some local flying. No XC

August 9th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

We took off early, perhaps too soon, but considering the forecast we thought it best.  Stayupable early on, but most landed expecting winds and we could see big congestus over the back and towards Avila.  However, winds did not really kick in until late afternoon, so another local flight was made.

NW 20km/hr

August 9th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not such an easy day today,  we still have the NW flow but with higher winds, though in our area they should be manageable early on.  An early inversion, but with temperatures reaching c30ºC a high risk of stacked Cu and possibly some showers of Cb towards the end of the day.  We will probably […]

Light winds and 3000m +base

August 8th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Looking like a good XC day with our flying area in a light wind sector in the general E flow. However, we will find it to be a light NW in the lower levels allowing us good options for closed circuit XC flying.  maybe towards the Pass then to the NE, or towards Avila and […]

NE flow, 2600m or less for max height.

August 6th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A  blue thermal day with the wind more in the NE than yesterday.  quite a stable trace, but will be hot enough for climbs to around 2600 maybe later in the afternoon.  Winds quite light.  Maybe we can go somewhere beyond Barco towards the Pass, though with a day like today I think it would […]

N winds, 2600/3000m thermal tops

August 5th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Mainly a blue day, but with some Cu on the higher peaks and in convergence areas (which we won’t be flying near today).  Marked inversion early on  below take off, rising somewhat to around 2200m later in the afternoon, but for the moms part the climbs will not go much above 2600m in the valley. […]

OK for an early local flight.

August 4th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A cold front passing through and affecting mainly the NW of Spain.  However, winds will increase and we should bet some associated cloud at around 2300 later in the afternoon.   Winds will be significantly higher in the Avila valley and on the high ground.  I suggest an early take off and  flying around the […]

3400m+ NW wind

August 3rd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Another excellent XC day, though with a little more wind and a bit more from the N than yesterday.  Unusually showing more wind in our Valley early on than the Avila valley.  A very marked convergence on the mountain, and the finger of convergence stretching out from between Muñogalindo and Avila to the mountains to […]
