X section to Avila noon to 6pm

We should have a reasonable flying day with base around 2600m and good thermal quality.  Winds in the SW, so  some convergence expected in the Ambles valley.  Low Stratocumulus should burn off by  around 11am and I imagine we can be on our way by 12.30.

We will go up when the cloud starts to clear, c 11 -12am

What Happened:

A nice day with 5 of us over the Pass, but most failing to connect with a good climb on the other side:  Good evening conditions.

Relentless low pressure.  Wind will be on Peña Negra today, but chances of storms or  rain is high.  looking OK for tomorrow afternoon and Monday.  Lets hope a  normal June conditions to resume.

Low pressure and instability.  South west winds which are not excessive, but at 9am still over the back.  This will be a difficult day to squeeze in a flight without risk.

Once again we should have a good flying day, though the head low forming will give us a little more instability and greater Cu development.  Avila XC direction

What happened

Well, some nice soaring ealy on but the onset of big congestus and later storms put us on the ground by 1pm.  Only Mick got in an evening flight before the stormy cycle started again.

Another reasonable looking day with the predominance of high pressure.  Today more of a flow from the west, so an Open XC towards Avila is more realistic as we won’t come up against the changes in wind we found yesterday.  At 24 ºC we may find some of the Cu starting to build high, though CBs are unlikely.    Base above 3000m and convergence in the Ambles valley likely.

A very nice day with Franz near Avila, Christop at around 30km  and Helen also over the Pass (just).  I bombed at Casas del Puerto. Ha!  Nice evening flying with the whole ridge working for the OandR

X section to Avila 11am to 7pm

Much lighter winds than we have been having with a W influence above and light E below.   Blue thermal tops rising to over 3000m during the afternoon.  A good circuit flight day.

What Happened

A good day   as forecast.  Plenty of flying, 3 soaring flights and probably over 3 hours for some.  Franz went over the Pass on the first flight, but  expected NW on the other side stopped him early.

Slightly less wind forecast than yesterday with a more  easterly direction.  Less Cu and a lower thermal tops  at around 2600m.  Foehn wind cloud early this morning on the ridge.  We may have a look at the Chia take off.  Around 10.30 isn

We now have more influence of the Azores high and the upper level instability has moved Eastwards.  Winds still may be a little strong mid afternoon,  but we should get some decent flying out of the day.  thermal tops around 2600m.

What Happened:

Not so bad.  Nice early soaring and then an afternoon flight with Nigel, Andrew and myself going down to Barco.  Reasonable evening conditions for soaring but too N for the ridge run,
