Not such an easy day today, we still have the NW flow but with higher winds, though in our area they should be manageable early on. An early inversion, but with temperatures reaching c30ºC a high risk of stacked Cu and possibly some showers of Cb towards the end of the day. We will probably go for an early start with initially a goal at Barco and see how things develop.
Yesterday the day switched on very early with strong climbs from around 12.45 when we took off. Very light winds and what seemed like constant lift to Barco. Steve and I went up towards the Tornavacas Pass and found above 3500m a SW wind. Only Thomas successfully returned to Piedrahita from Barco. Excellent evening conditions also.
Looking like a good XC day with our flying area in a light wind sector in the general E flow. However, we will find it to be a light NW in the lower levels allowing us good options for closed circuit XC flying. maybe towards the Pass then to the NE, or towards Avila and back, or towards Barco and back. If the forecast is as promised all would be feasible.

Another E flow day with base near 2800m. Only Johan from our group flying as I was at the airport collecting the new arrivals. Great flight for him with a return to Barco. No evening flight as conditions turned strong SE.
A blue thermal day with the wind more in the NE than yesterday. quite a stable trace, but will be hot enough for climbs to around 2600 maybe later in the afternoon. Winds quite light. Maybe we can go somewhere beyond Barco towards the Pass, though with a day like today I think it would be pushing it to continue into the tricky landing area.
Yesterday NE and a flight down to Barco in quite stable conditions initially . Marshal and Nigel tried to return, some of us decided to land and have a snack in Barco.
Stewart from Canberra, who was out with us for 3 weeks this year. A rather over exaggerated caricature which hence has probably lost a lot of likeness. Anyway, on to the next!
Due to expected strong winds we flew early in light thermals landing before the frontally induced increase in wind strength.
Mainly a blue day, but with some Cu on the higher peaks and in convergence areas (which we won’t be flying near today). Marked inversion early on below take off, rising somewhat to around 2200m later in the afternoon, but for the moms part the climbs will not go much above 2600m in the valley. Flying in the Barco direction and to the Tornavacas Pass, and if it does go better than the forecast, then maybe on to Plasencia.
No need for an early start due to inversions.
A cold front passing through and affecting mainly the NW of Spain. However, winds will increase and we should bet some associated cloud at around 2300 later in the afternoon. Winds will be significantly higher in the Avila valley and on the high ground. I suggest an early take off and flying around the valley landing in the El Soto or HG landing area and not going further East than the Big spine if the wind picks up early.
Wind is a light NW at 9am. I suggest we brief at 10 to 10.15 and go up straight after.
