110 km O&R for Sebastian, and a near 80km circuit for others.

Excellent day but not so high, with climbs not often over 2300m, though touching 2600m occasionally. However, powerful strong, especially at the Cemetery near the Pass.  Most of us turned at the Pass excel for Sebastian and Simon.  Eric, Andy and I flew together to Barco via the centre of valley then back to take off.  It Eric on the Mantra 6 got in just ahead of me to PN.  I landed on my Ion 4 which I then swapped for the tandem for 2 commercial flights.  So all in about 7.5 hrs for me today

NW, decent soaring day but limited XC day

A fair amount of status early on which should burn off, but unusually we still have quite low inversions.  However, the direction is perfect for easy soaring on the mountain and winds light enough for pleasant flying and Moderate XC flying between the Tornavacas and Villatoro Pass.  It may be worth going over for some, but if this were a competition day we would do around 80km turn point task around the valley.Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.20.19 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.20.54 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.22.25 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.23.45 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.21.21 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.18.55 Screen Shot 2016-08-20 at 09.19.24

Sebastian to Avila, then lots over Pass on evening flight

With forecast higher winds we were rather cautious during the day, but those winds did not arrive till late in the day, giving good thermal climbs, but to not much over 2200m till mid afternoon.  A spectacular evening flight with good Cu forming at 2800m.  Much of our German contingent took advantage for a flight over the Pass.  I did a great long and high tandem flight around the valley.

WNW and a bit strong mid day

The temperature trace and thermal quality will be similar to yesterday.  However, with the passage of another cold front the wind is going to get a little high mid afternoon, but should calm for good evening conditions.   Quite strong already at 8 am at launch, so we may try to go up the hill earlier.  Briefing at 10 and perhaps  departure to launch around 10.30.

PB for Faisal and Anders

Conditions switched back on again today with light winds and some climbs to 3000m+. A few PBs, for Anders and for Faisal with flights to Avila. We set the goal there so we could be back in time for the evening flight and restitution, which was one of the good ones.

Lighter NW.

Today we have quite inverted conditions which will make getting above 2400 quite difficult for much of the day.  Wind more to the N at Avila with the usual span wise convergence across the valley as we approach Avila.

Lighter winds and a slow start to the day will probably allow us a few attempts as it is less likely to get strong at launch early.Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 09.00.12 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.57.23 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.55.55 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.58.10 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.59.02 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 09.00.44 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.57.47 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.59.47 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 08.56.55Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 09.00.44

A day of Wave.

Yesterday an unusual day in that wave bars formed along the chain of mountains and out in the plains.  We flew, though found the winds speeds switch quite dramatically at times.   The best soaring for all was during the evening.

Lighter winds. NW winds

A much easier day for us with the wind on at PN.  Some lower inversion to deal with and generally a cooler day with early afternoon climbs to around 2600m and maybe late in afternoon to near 3000m.  The NW flow will give us a headwind low down in Avila, so unlikely to be a day for more than 60km.

There will be some convergence areas in the Ambles valley, but not long sections which will help us make easy distance.

However, we should have excellent evening conditions.  Probably out best strategy is to set a goal at Avila for beforee 5.30, which will ensure a return for all for an evening flight at 7pm

Probably a slow day to get going, so launches around 1pm.

lastra South and WSW.

Yesterday a turbulent windy morning flight for Phillip and Andy from the Crossed S side of lastra.  After some swimming in the river a nice smooth lift evening flight from Lastra WSW.

SW good climbs but still a lot of wind

A day with a lot of yellow dust suspended in the air which will make visibility very poor.  Once again, SW winds and good thermals to over 3000m.  Some streeting and convergence.  Probable development of congestus near Avila, though our area should be free of problems again.  A trough in the East of Spain will affect much of the East half of Spain with storms.

As the take off was so turbulent yesterday we will probably have an early look at La Lastra, maybe returning to Peña Negra later on.  Departure around 10.30am , briefing around 10am.
