First XC for Mari

A super day for Mari with some high thermal climbs to  near 2600m and a successful trip to near the Pass then back to Villafranca 1st junction.  Also 4 flights for Ian with a few more hours for his log book and first high thermalling.

Great conditions for low airtime’s these last days!

Light NW flow. Climbs to 2600m+

Similar to yesterday but with better thermic conditions and higher climbs, the inversion being higher.  Some cirrus may calm things, but in general an excellent day.  NW on the mountain, though N in the Avila valley, so probably best to do circuits within the Piedrahita and Barco valleys.

Flight to Barco and first thermalling for Ian

A pleasant day yesterday conforming to the forecast.  3 flights and an XC to Barco for many of the group and easy evening conditions

Light NW going more N later.

We should have a pleasant soaring day with the winds on the hill, though climbs not much more that 2500m.  Not dissimilar to the previous days, though with more sunshine so better climb rates.

N flow again. 2600m max, light winds

Similar to yesterday with reasonable potential to fly Westwards.  A marked inversion around 2200m, but likely climbs to around 2500m later in the afternoon.  Nice gentle N winds starting NW and moving more to NE

2 XCs to Barco

Yesterday we finally had some nice conditions for the Avon club with an early XC down to Barco , then an evening flight to the same.  Airtime record for Richard Harding, who spent 5 .5 hours in the air, staying up after we did an early morning flight down until arrival in Barco.

NNW flow, c2600m

Wind acceptable at PN at 8.30, and forecast to drop more.  So finally, a day with some sort of promise!.  A North flow with climbs not much over 2600m, and an inversion around 2200m.  Decent enough for XC towards Barco de Avila.

Strongish NW wind.

Once again we have difficult uncoperative conditions with a strong WNW flow and a significant depth of stratocumulus.  However, Cbs unlikely.  Dynamic lift on the main ridge and NW facing hills will of course be good, but the wind strength may not allow us to fly until late afternoon again.

Evening soaring only

Conditions finally abated yesterday for some fairly decent evening flying at PN taking off from the lower launch.

NW but on the strong side.

Not such an easy day as we could have hoped for.  The wind is on at PN, but very strong.  This should drop over the next hours, but the cloud base looks set to stay low for much of the day.  We have options of taking off lower down on the main mountain, or can have a look at some other lower launches a little to the NW of us about 15km away.  Cbs unlikely anyway!screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-09-31-40 screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-09-30-16 screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-09-33-22 screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-09-26-32
