Some flying before the storm

A frightening temperature trace so we were off reasonably earlier before much cloud development. A good climb accomodating the whole group straight after take off. One more climb at the big spine then all off to land as things started to build.
By the time we were back drinking tea at home big hailsones were falling. Tomorrow looks better.

Avila and Back. Amazing conditions

Light winds with a base near 3500m, convergence, perfect Cus and strong smooth climbs. After quite a time trying to go N to Salamanca, the decsion was finally called to go to Avila. Paul Dropped soon after the pass, Jan bombing after leading out near the bend in the road, then Chris and Ian near the Y junction where Nigel and I turned back. Eric had a bit of a tussle with his glider over Muñogalindo, landing eventually in Avila. A fast route back for Nigel and I, stopping only 3 times to Climb.
2 tandems in the evening for me after getting back. The others mainly decided to rest.

Epic day of 3500m PBs and light wind

Classic conditons with strong climbs to 3500m and good Cu from the pass onwards towards Ambles. SE near the Pass so I did a triangle towards the Salamanca road (near Quarry on Salamanca road) and Back to Piedrhaita. Ian, Eric, Chris and Jan similar, but not so far North. Mark had gone ontowards Avila, landing near Muñogalindo, so Ian and i then set of for the pass again, though on the other side decided then to fly home to Piedrahita finishing after about 3-4 hours airtime. Paul did a flight to Barco, back, then around the valley to do his PB of 84km plus 5.5hrs airtime, landing at take off when we arrived for the evening flight.

2300m light NE. Barco run

Not a forecast to get too excited about, so a goal set to eat ice cream in Barco. Chris, Eric and myself arrived, as did Nigel, who decided to continue his test of the demo Mentor 2 and flew back to Aldeanueva. Tomorrow looking good for a Avila and beyond.

Light NE to 2300m Blue day.

After the passage of a weak cold front and building high pressure, cool northerly flow with a late start and poor thermal quality. Nevertheless, an nice day with most at Barco and a few beyond towards the Pass at Tornavacas. OK evening flight but not much restitution.

Increasing W winds. Cu´s at 3100m

Reasonable climbs and conditions at launch, but building wind as we moved down the valley so we decided to land before the Pass. Tomas decided to go over and landed somewhere after Amavida with 35km ground winds.
An evening flight for myself with a tandem passenger and for Bill. Both of us landing some time after sunset.
Tomorrow looks a bit windy, but then getting good again for next week

3200m Light NW and convergence.

A fantastic day, with perfect conditions. Ian, Grant, Nigel and myself flew to Avila and came back to near the bend in the road. Very strong convergence in the Ambles Valley. 2 hours of big restitution flying in the evening.

Classic Cu filled sky. Light N/NW 2600m

The return of excellent conditions, though weak early on even though the day looked spectacular. Colin, as always, off early and after one low save near the Chalets kept high and watched numerous others bomb out.
I flew Terry on the Tandem, and alongside Nigel had a great 2hours + doing a circuit of the valley landing back at Piedrahita. Superb evening conditions with good themal climbs to quite late. Two tandems for me with a top landing between them.

Just an evening flight

Early development of congestus, but wind comming round for decent evening flying in late afternoon.

Credits roll on Groundhog Day

Every day for what seems like forever each day has been a similar pattern. Wake up, blue skies, up the hill and flying. That long steady pattern reaching back to June closed today with the arrival of a cold front. Ah well!
