light NW 2900m/4500m in mountains.

Light start once again and hardly a sniff of thermal on the morning flight. The XC flight spooked both Stijn and Maring with some wobbly thermals near the inversion at around 2600m who both decided to land. David attacked the Pass at quite a low level, spending quite some time low down in the dead end valley before finally getting up and over. David and I flew the mountain route along the Paramera. Very nice scenery with great visibility and height. David bombed at Solosancho. Pavel and Vinifreid about the same distance but along the N110.
Nice evening conditions. I got to fly Jorge on the tandem

Light NW 2800,3500m in mountains.

Perfect day and nice easy morning flight with good climbs (though not high) from around 11.30am. The XC flight only took most to the pass. A nice evening soar for all.

Light NE, 2500m

Slow starting day. On the second flight an easy flight to Barco for Stijn, Jakub, David and myself, with Martin makin the 2nd of two flights to la Aldeauela. Clouds near 3500m on the back mountains, but too cool in our valleys for the big climbs.

Further improvements

Saturday with a low base and quite deep Cu. Pete, Rob, Jon, Nick and myself went over the pass at around 2500m amongst the whisps of cloudbase. Quite easy on the other side, but the growing depth of Cumulus made us decide to land at round 30km. V. lifty evening flying on saturday, and once again today on Sunday for the evening flight with pilots reporting 2m/s climbs when the sun had almost gone down.

Some flying but not so good

Storm last night and high humidity during the morning. The wind came on early, but also Cu development which was deep enough to throw some showers later in the afternoon. An early flight, good for me as I reached the sunshine and was able to cruise around at cloudbase watching the others fail to connect and landing. All except Martin who did catch the climb, but landing as everybody else was down.
I did an evening fly down to test things but the regeneration of Congestus clouds and showers stopped the rest from flying.
An improvement tomorrow and from then on for next week.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Spot of bad weather (Wed and Thurs). Fiddling about with other toys till normal service is resumed.

4000m cloud base. Light to Mod SW.

A big day after a slow start once again. We were off at midday, but survived with climbs not much more than 300m about the top for about an hour. Infact most went down, leaving Gill, Martin, Peter, Rob and myself to hang around of the others to get back up in the van. Martin went first down the valley whilst I waited for the rest to all get to a high position (by this time around 2500m). Martin unfortunately bombed at the Cemetery. When Peter and I arrived we were able to climb to near 3000m and cross easily, by this time the others now launching at PN. Rob got to the quarry spine a bit low and also bombed. Gill landing with Martin as she was feeling tired.
An easy romp to Avila for Peter and I. Cus forming with the convergece at around 4000m just short of Avila and swinging to the N. Peter and I flew N to avoid airspace, but Peter ended up missing a low save at around the 70km mark. Phil, Nick and Jonothan managed to get over the Pass on their second attempt, but landing around the 30km mark.
Wave and Cirrus comming in during the late afternoon. Not a good omen for tomorrow!

A slow start then over the Pass

A reasonable forecast of SW with 15km/hr winds and a potential base of 3000m. V. light thermals untill we reached the quarry, all but Rob, Phil, Gill and myself downed before Casas del Puerto. We made a good climb near the cemetery then another near the Antennas, crossing with around 2400m. On crossing, the light winds in the Corneja valley switched to 25km/hr in the compression of the Pass and the subsidence area after it. P. I managed to get to the strong updrafts just near Amavida, though unfortunately the othere landed just before.
V.nice evening conditons with light thermal climbs and light winds.

A late start then very good (Barco and Back)

Light SE and blue thermals. A nice climb out at the Chalet for most, though not Tony, who somehow managed a safe landing in a difficult field in the forest. Gavin and Graham to Barco and back to Sta Maria, Brian to Sta Maria on the way along with Kevin. Tony at Barco on his second flight. The other chaps did not launch due to hangovers. I had a v.nice climb at Barco and another shared with Tony and Kevin on their way out as I was going back. Although ony 2600m max, the easiest out and back to Barco this year for me.
Superb evening conditions with strong climbs to around 2500m, though my tandem passenger spewed a lot of vomit just before the appooach which rather took the shine off the flight.

20km W at 2500m, going NNW.

Raining hard at 8am, but the cold front had passed by mid day, leaving blue skies with some nice Cu and increasingly strong climbs (to around 3.5m/s). Very cold early on, so some chose to land around Piedrahita as at time the base was a little low to go for the pass. Brian, Noel and myself rode a street of strong lift about 10km up wind and flew around the center of the valley till burstin bladders made us land (too much drinking coffee and tea earlier in the mornin whilst waiting for conditions to clear). We did another flight from the curve around 4pm finding strong lift but more N. An evening fight for Graham, Ian, and Kevin. I flew Jorge on the tandem as Noel offerd to drive down. A good day for Mark with around 2 hours and some very nice thermal climb outs.
