More amazing conditions

September 15th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Light S wind and a Lastra start. Mike and I went tandem with the idea of seeing Salamanca. Chino tested the air and demonstated that it was a good lastra day. Unfortunately there were some early bomb outs, and Mike and I on the tandem almost landed behind the hill, saved by a very low […]

Amazing conditions

September 13th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

A fantastic day. Chino and Guy flew to Barco and Back, then chino kept on going to the pass then around the valley with climbs to 3600m. Our evening flight, myself on Tandem with Julie, met up with him (now 6 hours plus into his flight) in a huge evening convergence/restitution. We flew right across […]

light N´NE 2800m

September 12th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Very nice early conditions and a shame to land for lunch (principally since there was nothing to eat as all the shops were closed for the fiesta and my ham and cheese had been thrown out in the weekend turnaround and cleaning). Anyway, second hop was just as easy and the Israeli group worked well […]

Back to N wind

September 11th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Saturday with the approach of the cold front it finally came onto Peña Negra for a bit of a windy and crossed soar. Today, Sunday, for the new group things were very nice with light to mod winds directly on the hill. Cool after the front so a late start. I flew Jorge on the […]

Classic evening at Lastra

September 9th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

A big day for the brave (strongish SW, high base and convergence). We just did the evening flight. At seven thirty I soon took a climb to 3000m which gave me an easy glide back to Piedrahita loosing only about 500m on the glide (at around 65km/hr). Dave, Pavel and Winnifred did not get quite […]

PBs for Stejn and David

September 8th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Great conditions with a light NW and blue climbs to 3300m. Stejn dropped out over the other side of the pass, but myself Jakob and David grovelled along till finally getting high. Jakob had a remarkable low save. I though I was having a miraculous save at around 100m up, then saw that Jacob seemed […]

light NW 2900m/4500m in mountains.

September 7th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Light start once again and hardly a sniff of thermal on the morning flight. The XC flight spooked both Stijn and Maring with some wobbly thermals near the inversion at around 2600m who both decided to land. David attacked the Pass at quite a low level, spending quite some time low down in the dead […]

Light NW 2800,3500m in mountains.

September 6th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Perfect day and nice easy morning flight with good climbs (though not high) from around 11.30am. The XC flight only took most to the pass. A nice evening soar for all.

Light NE, 2500m

September 5th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Slow starting day. On the second flight an easy flight to Barco for Stijn, Jakub, David and myself, with Martin makin the 2nd of two flights to la Aldeauela. Clouds near 3500m on the back mountains, but too cool in our valleys for the big climbs.

Further improvements

September 4th, 2011 - Posted by Steve Ham

Saturday with a low base and quite deep Cu. Pete, Rob, Jon, Nick and myself went over the pass at around 2500m amongst the whisps of cloudbase. Quite easy on the other side, but the growing depth of Cumulus made us decide to land at round 30km. V. lifty evening flying on saturday, and once […]
