An extraordinary day with climbs early in the day to 4000m and a light NW wind. These are some of the names and distances. Nigel 181km, Stuart 174km, Bart 139km, Tim and Steve 212.9, Marc 213.9km, Mishal 126km, David 66km. However, due to the tremendous thermic conditions it was exceptionally difficult to keep below 2900m […]
A great achievement for Stu and Marc yesterday with their successful out and returns. Also many other over the pass and doing a decent section of that flight. 7hrs plus in the air for some!
Not a bad day with light winds but a a little inverted and no big height gains. Local flying with the best by Stu with a reasonably large circuit with a flight to near the Pass and Barco and returning.
Today we have strong winds either side of us as the wind channels around the mountain range at Avila and Bejar. The trigger temps is lower, though we have some lower inversions around 2200m early on. Thermal heights later towards 3000m, but more so in the mountains and we will have trouble getting much above […]
The Calima seems to be moving away and the winds dropping. We managed an evening soar with a 9.5 km glide down the valley to make things a bit more interesting.
Very big day yesterday with which Catherine managed to push her PB by 50km or so to 159km flying to the north of Zamora, a route hardly ever made. Also on Sunday Tommy made 70km , his 3rd pb of the week.
Yesterday with lighter winds and slightly higher climbs we had a good day, though once again without big distances. However, both Juan and Tommy achieved their personal bests. We stopped before Tornavacas.
Quite poor XC conditions yesterday , so a group goal in Barco. Notable people who did not make the goal but bombed out on the way. ME. Durrrr!
Yesterday saw pleasant but light conditions in the Piedrahita Valley, but on crossing into the Avila valley we had 30km winds on the ground and beyond Muñana the thermal strength and turbulence were most uncomfortable so most of us chose to land. Joe soldiered on to around 75km for the best distance of the […]
Joe was out with us in the first week of the season doubling his PB. He returned yesterday and whilst we were doing the airport pick up made a massive 160km new PB.
