Light SW winds and a little more instability

June 5th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again we should have a good flying day, though the head low forming will give us a little more instability and greater Cu development.  Avila XC direction   What happened Well, some nice soaring ealy on but the onset of big congestus and later storms put us on the ground by 1pm.  Only Mick […]

Similar to yesterday but W more dominant (3 over Pass)

June 4th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

Another reasonable looking day with the predominance of high pressure.  Today more of a flow from the west, so an Open XC towards Avila is more realistic as we won’t come up against the changes in wind we found yesterday.  At 24 ºC we may find some of the Cu starting to […]

Cool Moderate NW and upper level instability. Not good!

May 29th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

Temperatures continue to be low, with snow level around 1800m level.  The moderate NW will make it unlikely to be safely flyable during much of the day.  Perhaps at the end of the day.  Brighter and lighter tomorrow.

Rain, but some prospects at the end of the day

May 28th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

A cold front going through this morning, hence the rain falling, and if we could see through that dense rain, then there is likely to be snow on the top 100m at take off.  It should clear by the end of the day and the winds may moderate sufficiently for an evening flight.   What […]

Not so Bad

May 27th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

We had a reasonable day with 3 flights and good thermal climbs.  A bit breezy at the end of the day but with an interesting convergence setting up in the valley at the end of the day.

Blue thermals to 3000m and a light NW

May 25th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Ham

All looks good, though we need to go above 18 ºC to get climbs and an inversion around 3000m.  Estimated top temperature not so high and indicates stability, though yesterdays top of  30ºC in the afternoon went well above the estimated 16ºC.   So, it should  be good and if the wind direction is correct […]
