Friday 22nd, Some flights to Barco

July 23rd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Yesterday the NE wind kept us local with a flight to Barco by Catherine and Stu, with a few others landing on the way out of choice before the wind picked up.  Great evening flying as the wind pulled more onto the hill allowing a run of the whole mountain with restitution in the valley.

PB for Tommy, and Ian. Decent distances for Nigel and Stu.

July 22nd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A few PBs yesterday with climbs to 3200m and sufficient SW to go beyond Avila.  Rob and Ian (PB) in the upper 80s, Tommy (PB) Past Avila, Nigel near Villacastin at around 76km, Stu near Avila, and a load of us cast to the ground after the Pass.  A special mention in dispatches for Gary […]

NW lighter winds and base towards 3000m

July 21st, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

We still have lingering some of the suspended dust in the air, but much clearer with lighter winds which will allow us to fly PN.  A general NW flow on our side of the mountains with convergence very much behind us on the mountain chain. Mainly  blue but clouds likely in the mountain at around […]

Not a good day but with the heat starting to drop and the dusty air perhaps reducing.  Too strong to contemplate this morning, but late afternoon does seem OK.

SW convergence day.

July 19th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A day for going to La Lastra again with strongish SW flow.  If we look at rasp, then perhaps too strong, but the Spanish Meteo site is show less wind.  Liely convergence in Avila Valley and after Avila moving more NE.  Less base and less chance of clouds today except in the convergence areas.  Once […]

Base at 3800m with convergence running North

July 18th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A hot day with temperatures to 34ºC +.  Trigger temperature around 29ºC, but after that a temp trace with no inversions until 4000m, quite a contrast on last week.  Winds to the  south and not so strong perhaps within the boundary layer, but due to thermal strength we will get strong local thermic winds on […]

60km Out and return for many and PBs

July 15th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

The conditions starting to improve now and a great day out with climbs eventually reaching 2800m.  We followed the tandem comp task over the Pass, but decided to return at the 30km mark due to the light headwind.  A great run back over the Pass again and to home.  Ross and Stu top landed before […]

Lighter winds and higher thermal climbs.

July 15th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again an increment in the conditions, Hotter, higher and lighter winds.  The SkewT shows more generally NNW winds in our valley so the conditions on the hill should be very nice, especially in the evening.   The general flow still continues to be NE, so a probable flight towards Barco or Plasencia is most […]

Similar but perhaps better.

July 14th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Slightly lighter winds and a little warmer giving a better thermic day.  Once again quite inverted bellow take off level and a NE flow.  Perhaps today we may venture down further than Barco!

A weak inverted day and then strong climbs and stronger winds as we reached Barco.  Most of the group there yesterday, then a decent evening soar.
