Yet another PB. Iain at 72.4km

August 2nd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Best in our group today was Johan again, with 82.8 landing near Villacastin on purpose.  Iain made a great flight on his second attempt after an early bomb out. Conditons going to 3800m+ in the Avila valley so a lot of caution under the airspace, which was the main reason Iain landed when he did. […]

Really excellent conditions

August 2nd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

This will be another remarkable XC day.  Good for Open XC and also OK for the return, but today I imagine we can set Segovia as a goal.  Generally a westerly flow and less chance of N at Avila.  A base a little higher than yesterday, but not much above 3400m, so we should be […]

Great XC forecast.

August 1st, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Today is looking really nice.  Not epic for open distance, but generally a quality XC day but without excesses.  We have generally a light wind, NW in our valley and more NE in the Avila valley.  Some inversions but climbs later in the afternoon to around 3000m and some Cu formation, though less than yesterday. […]

Light winds NW, climbs to 3000m

July 31st, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

This, Sunday, should be a very pleasant day.  A inversion around 2200 to 2400m early in the day but climbs later in the afternoon should reach 3000m.  Winds straight on the hill.  This is a great day for circuits of the Valley. i.e., Pass, Redroofs, Hoyoredondo etc.  Should be excellent evening conditions with restitution.

A big day for the Brave.

July 30th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Classic SW convergence line after Avila towards the N of Segovia, climbs to 3000m and plenty of wind to get you a long way.  The only trouble is that that wind is well beyond the comfort level for most paragliding pilots. The good thing is that it is now looking good for tomorrow and the […]

SW Classic convergence day.

July 29th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

We will need to go to La Lastra today in order to ensure a take off, though it will probably come onto PN later, though crossed from W.  Decent climbs to c3000m and a distinct convergence from the Sierra de Avila moving NE (far to N of Segovia).  This may give us more leeway to […]

Exceptional day with climbs to near 4000m and light winds

July 28th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

An amazing day if we believe the forecast.  Light winds, so circuit flying the best idea.  Some convergence into the Avila Valley, and behind launch and the Pass.  Perhaps, the Bend in the Road, Barco then back.  Most things would work today with this forecast. small inversion around 1500 early in the day and trigger […]

Climbs to c3000m, more similar to Monday.

July 27th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A NW flow in our valley but probably NE in the Avila valley.   Strongish winds in the Barco area.  I would suggest we will be crossing the Pass and returning when the headwind gets the better of us, probably before la Torre.

Light Winds maybe climbs to 4000m

July 26th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

This should be an excellent day with good quality climbs to near 4000m .  convergence on mountains, but not useful to us.  Average wind is NW, but lower level NE will make things tricky for a big open distance, as will the problem of a high base within the airspace area.  Segovia is an option, […]

More ENE wind!

July 23rd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not a brilliant day.  similar thermic conditions to yesterday, mainly blue and improving as the day goes on.  However, the wind is once again a problem as it  will pick up again considerably.  An explanation can be seen of that in my little animation from a few years ago https://vimeo.com/64294975 Also if we look at the […]
