NNW flow, c2600m

September 16th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Wind acceptable at PN at 8.30, and forecast to drop more.  So finally, a day with some sort of promise!.  A North flow with climbs not much over 2600m, and an inversion around 2200m.  Decent enough for XC towards Barco de Avila.

Strongish NW wind.

September 15th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Once again we have difficult uncoperative conditions with a strong WNW flow and a significant depth of stratocumulus.  However, Cbs unlikely.  Dynamic lift on the main ridge and NW facing hills will of course be good, but the wind strength may not allow us to fly until late afternoon again.

NW but on the strong side.

September 14th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not such an easy day as we could have hoped for.  The wind is on at PN, but very strong.  This should drop over the next hours, but the cloud base looks set to stay low for much of the day.  We have options of taking off lower down on the main mountain, or can […]

Light winds and N flow

September 10th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not disimilar to the previous 2 days with good thermal quality once things get going.  Once again inverted, but climbs to 2600m by mid afternoon .  Likely convergence across the valley at Muñogalindo.  Once gain, flights to Avila, or Perhaps Barco direction.  A bit more north today, but also lighter.  Maybe a circuit around the […]

Light N , climbs to c 2600m

September 9th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Not disimilar to yesterday but with more of a N flow and perhaps a little stronger.  An inversion again, not far above take off and climbs above 2600m will not be common.  A disparity of wind directions between Rasp and  Hirlam, so it maybe Barco, or it maybe Avila! O nce again a slow start […]

NW and lighter

September 8th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

A flyable day with climbs probably not much more than 2600m, and an inverse making that quite difficult till mid afternoon.  However, the temp trace much more favorable and light winds onto the mountain so good flying for all levels.   A goal in Avila and maybe a part return to the bend in the […]

One of those days

September 7th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

…when if you are luck, brave and good you may fly 200km+.  However the winds (WSW) are on the high side and the wind will be crossed and turbulent at take of at both Lastra and PN.  Good lines of convergence right along the middle of  the Avila Valley and then beyond towards Segovia.  Predominantly […]

Slow day with variable winds

September 6th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Quite a stable day initially and we will need temperatures over 30ºC to get any decent thermals.  Light SE moving SW during the afternoon.  Hopefully it will come onto PN and there will be some interesting convergence effects which we will be able to take advantage of for circuits around the Valley (between the Pass […]

WNW, a little stable

September 5th, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Climbs will be a little slow and late today with our temperature trace well to the right and some inversion, keeping us mostly below 2600, though some climbs will probably to to 3000m.  NW flow in general.  I imagine today Avila will be a good, and hard won goal for most of us. No easy […]

3000m and convergence from Ambles to NE.

September 3rd, 2016 - Posted by Steve Ham

Looking like an excellent day if we believe the RASP reports.  Excellent climbs and much reduced Cu, though still likely to get tall along the convergence which  will  run from Muñogalindo to the NE in a typical way.  Wind  at 9am 14km/hr SE, but likely to come onto PN.  A  capping inversion to keep the […]
