Friday 15th June

June 15th, 2018 - Posted by Steve Ham

Good morning, looks more like a typical XC day. Winds are reasonably light and NW in our valley, but likely to be North in the Avila Valley, Probable climbs to 2600, and maybe reaching around 3000m at end of the day. A good day for pushing towards Avila as far as possible, and maybe getting […]

Not a promising start to the week.

June 4th, 2018 - Posted by Steve Ham

Today we have moderate winds from the west with a risk of storms, more so to the north.  An inversion will probably keep us safe from overdevelopment here, but a layer of cumulostatus is likely to keep the sun away for much of the day.

First day of our season 2018

June 3rd, 2018 - Posted by Steve Ham

Today we start things here at Flypiedrahita.  Unfortunately, not starting with the best weather for the next few days though. Below a selection of our tracking equipment.  The larger units on the right are an experiment with Airwhere.  Each is a stand alone unit with batter, GPS and radio reciever which works independently of internet […]

The end of our flyguiding season

October 2nd, 2017 - Posted by Steve Ham

That is it for us at Flypiedrahita for 2017.  Many thanks to all who visited us this year.   We normally stop at this time of year as the chances of decent XCs is reduced.  However, it does seem that things are getting even better this week with higher temps and still with light winds. […]

Evening Restitution

August 18th, 2017 - Posted by Steve Ham

A reasonable forecast, but gusty strong winds from quite early on.  Only Hans decided to fly, where he found reasonable conditions, though the rest of us decided to leave it until the evening.  Once again, like many evenings this week, a fantastic restitution flight with abundant lift on hill and out in the valley til […]

Towards Barco

August 10th, 2017 - Posted by Steve Ham

A poor forecast today with strong SE early on.  However, Peña Negra worked its magic and the wind came on by 1pm.  An early bomb out of me (Steve) near Santiago, but much of the rest of the group flew down to Barco.  Still too cool and stable for it to be decent and interesting […]

4000m day. O&R over Pass and back and Avila goals.

August 3rd, 2017 - Posted by Steve Ham

Another big conditions day with very strong climbs to 4000m and light winds allowing a variety of XC options.  Jorg probably the best with a flight to near Sotalvo castle south of Avila and back to Villafranca.  Tin Tin and Stu in Avila and others spread around the Avila and Piedrahita Valley.  I had one […]
